Homemade Electrolyte Drink Mix Powder

Mix one scoop per bottle

A dry electrolyte drink mix powder you scoop into your bottle, mimicking commercial brands like LMNT or Liquid IV. Made from cane sugar, sea salt, citrus zest, and a touch of citric acid for that fresh tang. Stores indefinitely in a jar, no refrigeration needed.

Ingredients

Powder

1/2 cup organic cane sugar
2 tbsp fine sea salt
1 tbsp cream of tartar (potassium source)
1 tsp food-grade citric acid
Zest of 2 lemons, dried (or 1 tbsp dried lemon zest)
1/2 tsp ground ginger (optional)

Dose matters

Stick to one tablespoon of powder per 500 ml of water, and never eat the powder dry. Cream of tartar is potassium bitartrate, a concentrated potassium salt, and this jar holds roughly 1900 mg of potassium across its 20 scoops. Several scoops at once, or extra cream of tartar added to make it "work better", can push blood potassium too high, which affects heart rhythm. If you have kidney problems or take blood pressure medication such as an ACE inhibitor, an ARB, or a potassium-sparing diuretic, talk to your doctor before using any potassium-added drink mix. More salt and potassium is not better hydration; it is a drink your body has to correct for.

Notes

Scoop one tablespoon (about 8 g) into 500 ml of water for a standard electrolyte drink. Each scoop delivers about 250-300 mg sodium plus natural potassium from cream of tartar. Use less for a lighter mix, more for hot or hard efforts. The lemon zest adds real flavor without artificial flavorings. Store in an airtight jar away from moisture for up to 6 months. Use food-grade citric acid, sold in the canning or baking aisle and often labelled sour salt. The citric acid sold for cleaning and bath bombs is not made to food standards and should not go in anything you drink.
